The French bulldog has replaced the Labrador retriever as America's favourite purebred dog in 2023, according to the American Kennel Club.

The Kennel Club's top show dog was a short-faced, sturdy, compact dog.

AKC says the dog is playful, friendly, and affectionate. They adapt well and like kids.

Due to their short coats, Frenchies are low-maintenance pets. They rarely shed. Due to their size, apartment dwellers love them.

Lady Gaga, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Reese Witherspoon, and Hugh Jackman are French bulldog owners who post photos on social media.

Not everyone likes the French bulldog's popularity. Brachycephalic dogs have shortened skull bones and smashed-in faces.

Years ago, the Netherlands banned short-muzzled dog breeding. A Norwegian court overturned a similar ban last year.
